Terms of Service
Effective date: August 8, 2026
Welcome to JapanLingo! These terms are an agreement between you and CSJotLab Developer Team (“JapanLingo”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the JapanLingo app, you agree to them. Please read them — we’ve kept them as short and clear as we can.
What JapanLingo is
JapanLingo is a Japanese-learning app (JLPT N5–N1) for Android and iOS, offering vocabulary, kanji, grammar, reading, quizzes, spaced-repetition review, progress tracking, and user profiles. How we handle your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
Your license to use JapanLingo
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app and its learning content for your own, non-commercial learning. That means you may not:
- Resell, republish, or redistribute our lessons, quizzes, or app.
- Copy our content in bulk (including by scraping or automated extraction) or use it to build a competing product or dataset.
- Reverse-engineer the app, except where the law expressly allows it.
Your account
- One account per person, and it must be your own.
- You are responsible for your credentials — keep your password safe and let us know if you suspect someone else has accessed your account.
- You must give us a valid email address and confirm it before using your account.
- We may suspend or close accounts that abuse the service — for example, attempting to break security, harass others, cheat the progress system, or scrape content.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account). Deletion permanently removes your account, profile, avatar, and learning data from our servers.
Who owns the content
Our content.JapanLingo’s lessons and quizzes are original JapanLingo work, protected by copyright.
Your content
You keep ownership of anything you upload, such as your avatar photo and profile details. You grant us a limited licence to store and display that content solely to operate the service for you — for example, storing your avatar and showing it on your profile. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
Please only upload content you have the right to use, and nothing unlawful or offensive.
Payments and premium access
JapanLingo is a paid app: a selection of content is free, and full access to lessons and features requires a paid purchase or subscription.
- All purchases are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Their payment terms and refund policies apply, and refund requests are handled through the store you purchased from.
- Prices and what is included are shown clearly before you buy. We may change prices or which content is free versus premium; changes do not affect purchases you have already made.
- If a purchase is a subscription, it renews automatically unless you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings before the renewal date. Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the paid period.
- Payment is processed entirely by Apple or Google — we never receive your card or bank details.
- Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a subscription — cancel it in your store settings as well.
No guarantee of learning outcomes
We work hard to make JapanLingo accurate and effective, but learning results depend on many things we can’t control. We do not guarantee that you will pass any JLPT exam or reach any particular level of Japanese, and the app is a study aid — not professional language instruction, translation, or certification.
Disclaimer of warranties
The app and its content are provided “as is”and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content is complete or free of mistakes. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or lost opportunities, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or — if you only used the free content — the minimum amount permitted by law. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Service availability
We aim to keep JapanLingo available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features (or the service) for maintenance, security, or other reasons. If we ever discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice so you can export or delete your data.
Termination
You can stop using JapanLingo and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, abuse the service, or where required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as content ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If we ever have a dispute, please contact us first at csjotlab@gmail.com — most issues can be resolved informally. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally will be handled by the competent courts of [JURISDICTION]. Nothing in this section deprives you of mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app evolves. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use JapanLingo after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms; if you don’t agree, you can stop using the app and delete your account.
